Il y a avait déjà une flopée de Grand Maîtres dont une dizaine à plus de 2600 points elo. Mais, attiré par l'odeur des elos, de jeunes et ambitieux compétiteurs se sont inscrits comme le prodige américain Daniel Nardoditstky, l'allemand Jan-Christian Schroeder et le danois Simon Bekker-Jensen. Une vingtaine de pays seront représentés à PurtichJu avec de nombreux champions nationaux.
Les principaux favoris seront toutefois le n°2 français Etienne Bacrot, le champion d'Ukraine 2014 Yuriy Kuzubov, le N°1 suédois Nils Grandellus, le N°1 bielorusse Sergey Zhigalko. Alexander Areschkhenko, tenant du titre, aura du fil à retordre d'autant qu'il faudra compter sur l'un des meilleurs anglais, Gawain Jones et N°1 tchèque Viktor Laznicka . Sans oublier une armada de joueurs français : les N°7, 10,11 et 23 !
Il y aura ainsi une trentaine de joueurs titrés pour ce tournoi comptant pour le classement international. Mais surtout un niveau elo rare… à l’exception d’une poignée de rendez-vous internationaux, il est difficile de trouver autant de GMI à plus de 2600 points elo !
Le niveau du tournoi a attiré de jeunes loups. Derniers en date l’américain Daniel Naroditsky. A 21ans il a déjà un elo à 2634. Autre arrivée de poids, le plus grand espoir allemand, Jan-Christian Schroeder (19 ans, 2497). Et il ne faudra pas oublier de nombreux Maîtres Internationaux comme le danois Simon Bekker-Jensen (2454), l’indien Shah SaGar (2433), l’allemand Erik Zude, l’italo-corse Pierluigi Piscopo, le corse Michaêl Massoni, la grand Maître lettone Daulyte Demiante, le MI français Debray Christopher et bien d’autres…
Un indice qui ne trompe pas, tous les bungalows réservés au tournoi (une cinquantaine) ont été pris d’assaut ces dernières semaines. On affiche complet au Marina Viva. A tel point que la présidente de l’Echecs Club Ajaccien se démène comme une belle diablesse pour proposer d’autres conditions d’héhergement à tarifs spéciaux dans des établissements voisins
. Tous les records de participation seront bien sûr battus. L’open de Purtichju passe à la vitesse supérieure !

It was home to an extremely strong tournament – the 3rd Porticcio Open 2016. Ten players above the rating of 2600 participated in the event, which ended in a six way tie. El torneo tenía varios grandes atractivos: precioso paisaje, mar, playas, montañas, naturaleza, gente y organización excelente. Además los participantes eran bastante fuertes.
